Steve and
Amy Schicketanz started in 1988 as Black Magic Chimney
Sweeps. They cleaned and repaired stoves and chimneys for
two years and then started selling used stoves. Steve
would buy used wood stoves, restore them and sell and
install to the chimney cleaning customers. He opened Rocky
Mountains Stoves in 1990 on "F" street in Casper. In 1992
they moved to their present location at 426 S. Center.
They opened the store with just one stove and every year
after that, they made one large improvement. Over the
years they began to add pellet stoves, gas stoves,
electric and all types of fireplaces and accessories from
chimney pipe and parts to decorative fireplace
accessories. They made a decision to only sell stove and
fireplace related products. The thinking was that they
would be experts at one thing and be able to give the best
value and service to their customers.
With over
100 types of displays in their expanded showroom, you will
always find great deals. Annual Spring and Summer
Clearance sales are legendary!
When
Magic City began, it was only 10% showroom and 90% shop
and warehouse. In 2003, a new warehouse was purchase on
Midwest street, one block west of the main Magic City
Stoves office. In 2006, all 6200 sq. feet of Magic City
Stoves was turned into showroom with parts and chimneys in
the back, wood stoves on the bottom floor, electric
fireplaces on the top level, and pellet and gas stoves and
fireplaces toward the front of the showroom.
When they
started the business they had no capital to start with -
simply good friends and family to cheer them on. But a
business needs to advertise, so they put their heads
together. They came up creative ideas to bring in
customers- free chimney inspections-or free fireplace
tools. They are now one of the top 10 nationwide dealers
for Harman and Quadrafire.
Steve and
Amy have two teenage kids. Steve also races stock cars,
and Amy can be seen bowling and scrapbooking. They both
enjoy the wild Wyoming winters and snowmobile whenever
they can with their kids. Besides running the business,
Steve is a member of the Casper Mountain Lions Club and a
board member of the Casper Area Transportation Coalition.
Steve is still out there installing stoves and cleaning
chimneys, and Amy handles all the accounting, and
occasionally helps in the store.
To this
day Magic City Stoves does one thing only and one thing
well. They are dedicated to giving great service at a
great price!
